Iron Knucle Nabooru by Gabriela-Birchal Iron Knucle Nabooru by Gabriela-Birchal
This is my second entry for Link's Blacklist ([link]). Even though there is other artwork for this miniboss I wanted to make a different aproach with mine. The Spirit Temple is one of my favorite ones from OoT and Nabooru is a sage that I think deserves more love.

It was another challenge for me, I'm new at painting armor and all these diferent stuff but I think I reached a satisfying result. Nevertheles critique are very much welcome. =)

It's hard to decide what makes this work so great. To me it's a stunning work of fan art that shows great emotion, wonderful coloring and manages to get the backstory of the character in the mix as well.

It's wonderful to see the details you have put into this, all from the broken chain to the blurry movements. It truly shows that you know what you're doing.

I love that you didn't paint a detailed background, that you rather used colors to not only set a dramatic mood but also show off her emotions.

It's wonderful that you haven't used dark lines everywhere, but rather make distinct features with shadows and light instead. (such as the ear) But even as good as you are with it, I hope you'll continue to work towards perfection. Her right shoulder does look a bit rushed compared to the overall work off the drawing. You could easily eased up on the dark lines there. But it's great that you use the combo of dark lines at some places and shadows at others, and overall you did a fantastic job.

Looking forward to see more wonderful art from you.

There are a few problems with the image. First is that the right hand bracers mix perspective. The wrist is farther away than the elbow, while the bracer seems to be moving from the wrist backwards. While the bracers is broken, you would need to change its orientation more and probably have to have it leave the wrist completely.

The left shoulder piece is very nice, but the round part seems to be coming directly toward the viewer, while the should is trying to angle away because of the very open pose. Also, it seems too far away from the shoulder to the point where it appears either floating or disconnected from the rest.

Lastly, the axe is too blurred. If the chain mail is snapping and sending rings everywhere, they should be as blurred as the axe, especially in a backswing. The blur starts a little too suddenly at the handle. Better yet, if you stopped motion for the breaking armour, then everything should be stopped or just add a trailing effect rather than blur.

The great parts are the facial expression and the lighting. The bright area behind the head draws the eye to the face, which is the most dramatic element. The glow to the eyes, the sheen on the lips. Really nice.

The pose is overly dramatic which is what you want fr something like this. Really well done. Could have added a bit more detail at the hips where the chain ends and the skirt begins. Very nicely done and good drama to provoke the emotions.

As you said, you are just starting with some elements. It needs a little more work, but you have the right ideas.

Great emotion! Since OOT I have always thought of this as an Iron Knuckle--even the similar designs in later games called Darknuts lol
